YEAH PEOPLE ARE LEAVING COMMENTS!

Here I finally have some pictures of my room. This is my bed and my bathroom. When I come to the states I am going to pick up more blankets because I get cold at night. I can't believe I really am saying that, but I do truly get really cold.

Hurricane Gustav is over. It rained all day yesterday and all day today. We did not have school yesterday or today. We should have it tomorrow.

Its been good though. I spent all day and yesterday hanging out with friends and just relaxing. It was nice, but I do hope I have school tomorrow. I want to keep making progress with my kids.

Hurricane Gustav!

I will ask you all to pray for Haiti as Hurricaine Gustav is predicted to hit us very hard in about 4 hours. I will be safe and you don't need to worry, but a lot of Haitians die who do not have proper housing. Things flood so fast here.
I am doing well...no school today.
Love always

Bigger pictures and better pictures and more pictures

Then below I am posting pictures of a Haitian wedding I went to. Here in Haiti when they are extending friendship to you they will extend food to you. So if you come to Haiti and you go hungry then you know they don't like you :) :) I became the official photographer actually at the reception. I had the camera :) It was a lot of fun and I made some new friendships.

I am going to have to upload more pictures later. I cannot do it right now. I think because Hurricane Gustav or whatever, is right overhead. Pray for those who are less fortunate that do not have solid homes to live in.
A lot of people die here in Haiti during Hurricanes because they have no shelter. I am safe from everything but massive spiders :)
Love you all so much

Haitian Wedding, My class, First day full of school

Wow this weekend was crazy followed by my first full days of classes. It was a crazy adventure. Just for the record, the children in the pictures below are some orphans that I spend time with not the kids in my class. I will post a picture of my class below.
Their names are Djamineh, Victor, Georgio, Lizi, Fatima, Tifany, Jean, Jules, Etienne, Fabrice, Kim, Daniel, Bethleen, and Chad.
Are you all impressed that I can say all their names? :) :) :) Ok there are only 14 right now but we are supposed to get at least two more. Its a little crazy right now.
The picture below is of some of my bulletin boards.
ok nevermind. I am having technical difficulties again. I will get back to this later.
Love you all and God bless
Maggie

Click on it and then write your comment in that space.
Once you are done with that go to the bottom and reenter the code that has those funny letters
then on the bottom where it says Name/URL click on that

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!

Ok so again...I don't have any school pictures. Every time I am here at the school I am so super busy doing school stuff that I forget to take pictures. I will try to take pictures soon.

We had a great day. We started out with 12 students, but then went down to 11 because one of the kids was in the wrong class. I have 4 girls and 7 boys so far. I will have at least two more girls and who knows how many boys. They say it takes a couple weeks in Haiti to get all the kids to school and in the right classes and everything worked out. There are language barriers to be worked through in some situations and previous school records to sort out in others. I would challenge any of you teachers out there to come get a taste of Haitian Schooling adventures. Its definitely a great adventure. I made my bulletin boards and got everything ready last week and this week they all came it. It was a little overwhelming at first, but then we kind of settled in. I even know their names! I really worked hard to learn them today. I have Georgio, Djaminah, Victor, Lizi, Alexis Jean, and so forth and so on. :) They are great kids.

This week is only half days. Its a super blessing to be with them and not have to go right into school. I think my kids will be more than ready to hit the books by the time next monday comes along. Today and this week we are mostly just going over the rules. There is quite a list of them thats for sure.

On Friday and Saturday I was at the orphanage again and I think I mentioned that I participated in their closing programs for the camp. I am going to try to attach some pictures for that. They actually set up their own sound system for the camp production. It was pretty cool especially for Haiti. It made the ceremony really neat. The kids did recitations and sang and did a skit that they made up. It was really well done. Nope I had nothing to do with the sound system. It was just cool to sit their.

picture update

please pardon me while I figure out some picture legistics.
Thanks so much

Comments!

Ha ha ha :) I am still laughing because of one of the previous comments. I have to be honest and say that I do not know who "you-know-who" is...I'm so sorry. :) If you could please write me back again and let me know that would be great. For further reference please put your name as there are lots of "you-know-whos" in my life.
Everything is going well. We are getting a lot of rain due to Tropical Storm Faye. Haiti does need the rain. We are pretty much going to hang loose for a little while although we may go over to the orphanage for a little while. I went over last night and the kids put on their closing program for the neighborhood parents. They did a great job. I love being over there and I am hoping to be able to get involved with mentoring the older girls. I think it would be really special.
This week was great for school and stuff. My room is all decorated and ready to go. I learned a lot this week. The kids are coming on Monday. It will be amazing to learn all their names and their personalities. I am definitely looking forward to all the adventures ahead of me.
I am healthy and feel great.
God bless you all
I'll write more soon.

SCHOOL TIME!

I am here at Morning Star Christian Academy. I am finally able to start settling in. I arrived here this morning around eight and teacher training started right away. I am co-teaching fifth grade with a young man named Johnny. He was a teacher here last year and then a student here before that for 10 years. He is proof of how good this school is. I was kind of panicky at first today because I had no idea what I was doing. I was taken out of the ER and thrown into a classroom! WOW what an experience. As the day went on though I began to get more comfortable. I actually made two bulletin boards and got a lot of decorating done in my class. The whole time I was trying to remember what it was like to be in fifth grade. I think this year is going to be the most amazing adventure that I've ever had in my whole life.
I just talked to my parents and although we did not have a perfect connect we were able to communicate. That was very nice.
I went out yesterday evening with one of my friends. We walked all over the place and I got to go to a Haitian Cinema and get ice cream at a convenience store. At the Cinema I saw that the movie "Hancock" was "coming soon" This was funny to me as in America this movie came out quite awhile ago. I suggested it to my friend and we might go back and see it in a couple weeks. It would be fun to see it again, but in French.
Please keep me in your prayers as I start school next monday. Please pray too for me as I am making some important decisions too as I go along.
I AM SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW AND WOW! THIS IS AMAZING> God is teaching me so much too.
Love always

Sun Ovens and Son Mountain Day Camp-Haiti style

WOW the last two days have been so so so exciting. Its been a blessing just to be able to rest and visit with friends. I've had a great time. I am going to attach this post and then attach pictures after in another post. I have some wonderful pictures now.
So yesterday I went to the same orphanage that I normally go to and I had a great time. They are in a new house and it is so beautiful and so perfect for them. It made me start to cry. They were having a special camp session. Due to Monadnock Bible Conference's influence they have started the Haiti version of Son Mountain Day Camp. It was so wonderful to see them have so much fun and also to be learning the truth of God's word. They brought other children in as well from the surrounding neighborhood to interact with the kids and to be exposed to the gospel. It was so much fun.
The other really amazing thing I did today was that I went to a seminar for Solar Ovens. They taught Haitians how to use Solar heat to cook food and bake, etc... It was so amazing how cheap and how efficient the ovens were. Gas is so expensive here that to the Haitians it was a complete miracle. They waited for the food to be done and they refused to believe it could actually cook food without gas, electricity, or anything else... then they took out the food and tried it and one woman said....OOOOOHHHHH LI KWIT!!!! Its HOT, Its ready! They were so excited they started dancing around praising God, because to them this was a complete miracle. It really is a miracle for these people as it makes a wonderfully cheap way that these people can enjoy many different foods. God is so good! Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me for this amazing event.
My only problem right now is that I am so so so sick of the mosquitos. I finally have a bug net and that helps a lot, but I get eaten alive. Haitians tell me its because I am sweet that they like to eat me. Please please pray that they stop eating me...:) :) :)
The other prayer request is that Elionel is very sick...with chicken pox! He's 27 and has the chicken pox. He is very uncomfortable and has a very high fever. Please pray that he recovers quickly.
Anyhow, I really need to go accomplish some other things.
God bless you all and I will keep in touch
Love always

FINALLY IN HAITI

Unfortunately I do not have any pictures at this time. I just wanted to let everyone who faithfully looks at this page to know that I am fine. I am settled in at the guest house(like an inn) for the next couple of days. Its kind of a little vacation for me. Helps me to prepare for the weeks and months ahead. I developed a little hitch on my way down and had a few problems that thankfully were quickly resolved. God is so good. Even in the midst of us losing our minds, he stays right with us, strengthening and comforting us.
Today I arrived at the guest house at 10:00. I did pretty much nothing else during the day except that I spent some time with Elionel and with some other friends. It was really a blessing. I am definitely in need of some sleep so I should go hit the hay. The weird thing is that its only 8:30 here and I am ready to sleep for a week. I guess though it makes sense since I'll be up at 5 tomorrow AM anyhow.
Oh and I am already being eaten alive by mosquitos. Its very difficult for me to avoid that problem. One of my friends is going to look for a good mosquito net for me. Everyone is raving about how much Creole I speak. I feel like a raving lunatic because I am so tired. :)
So I'm sitting here on the porch and looking out over the street and this police car stops this kid and randomly searches him. I guess it was a drug check or something, but he came out clean. Things are very peaceful here now and no one is really afraid of anything. Its a blessing.
I will write more, maybe tomorrow or the next day and hopefully with pictures. I am going to sleep now. God bless
